Cross Border corruption and anti-corruption in the digital age

Chairs: Fernanda Odilla (University of Bologna) and Ina Kubbe (Tel Aviv University)

In an increasingly interconnected world, complex corruption networks transcend national borders, evading traditional accountability mechanisms and challenging state-level regulations. Addressing these challenges requires robust transnational anti-corruption strategies.

Digital technologies play a dual role in this landscape: on the one hand, they facilitate corruption by enabling the seamless cross-border flow of money, influence, and power; on the other, they offer powerful tools for combating corruption through AI-driven solutions, advanced big data analytics, and enhanced transparency mechanisms.

This panel invites empirical (quantitative, qualitative, experimental, and mixed-method) and theoretical contributions that explore the multifaceted dynamics of cross-border corruption and anti-corruption in the digital age. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Case studies of transnational corruption and anti-corruption initiatives.
  • The impact of digital technologies on cross-border corruption networks.
  • AI and big data analytics as tools for promoting integrity and transparency.
  • Comparative analyses of anti-corruption strategies across borders.
  • Theoretical frameworks addressing the interplay between corruption and digitalization.

We welcome submissions from scholars across all fields of study, especially those employing innovative methodologies or offering new perspectives on integrity, transparency, and accountability at the transnational level.

Abstracts should have:

  • a title;
  • max 300 words;
  • 3-5 keywords;
  • Email authors are registered on the ECPR website (please register for free before sending us the abstract).

Proposals should be submitted by 3 January 2025 to fernanda.odilla@unibo.it and inakubbe@gmail.com

Selected papers will be submitted as a part of the full panel to be presented at the ECPR section organised by the Standing Group on Integrity and (Anti-)Corruption.
