RESPOND presented at “Anti-mafia and anti-corruption: practices of civic activism” seminar
On Tuesday, 2 July 2024, Elisa Orlando, our project team member from Libera, gave a lecture entitled “Anti-mafia and anti-corruption: practices of civic activism” at the Institute of Criminology at the Faculty of Law Ljubljana.
“Too often, political discourse relegates mafia, corruption and other related crimes to a matter of security, repression and law enforcement. In doing so, there is no acknowledgement of the social roots of these phenomena and consequently, the role of civil society in promoting preventive actions, building social and cultural alternatives, and promoting justice is left out. This lecture will present the experience of the Italian NGO ‘Libera. Associations, names and numbers against mafias‘ and discuss in particular its practices of community-based monitoring, support to potential whistleblowers and advocacy”.
